Display Energy Certificates

DEC

Display Energy Certificates (DECs) and the accompanying Advisory Report (AR) are a mandatory requirement for all public sector buildings greater than 1,000 m2 and have been since 2008 and greater than 500 m2 since January 2013 through the European Performance of Buildings Directive.

Whether it is your first DEC or the renewal of an expired DEC, we are is able to provide you with the required certificate and report.

DECs need to be renewed on an annual basis and ARs every 7 years and it is the responsibility of the occupier of the building to ensure that they are renewed each year.

There are penalties for not having a valid DEC and AR, these are £500 and £1000 respectively.

SEC provide more than simply the production of your DEC and AR we will:

  • Carry out an in-depth site survey identifying all of the issues affecting the energy efficiency of your buildings.

  • Provide you with a detailed opportunity report, expanding on the AR recommendations, giving details of projected costs and energy savings from both renewable and non-renewable opportunities.

The first DEC we provide for a building is charged at £350 and includes a visit to the location along with a comprehensive energy audit and report in addition to the required certificate, to highlight areas where cost savings can be made.

Each subsequent year this then reduces to only £150 with little more for you to do.  We will remind you of the renewal date and request that you send to us all of your energy bills for the year enabling us to provide you with an updated DEC.

If you have any further enquiries or would like to talk to somebody about possible energy-saving solutions for the buildings that you occupy, please contact us.
