Anaerobic Digestion (AD) is not a new technology, it is well established in Europe but in large scale plants. The recent development of modular AD plant housed within standard 20' and 40' shipping containers means businesses generating suitable waste streams, from 100 tons p.a. can benefit from the opportunity to generate electricity & heat, attract subsidies through Feed in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive along with reducing carbon emissions and waste disposal costs, reduce grid supply electricity and gas costs.

Anaerobic digestion is widely used as a renewable energy source because the process produces a methane and carbon dioxide rich biogas suitable for energy production, helping to replace fossil fuels. Large scale AD plants are considerable construction projects, smaller containerised plants that do not need planning and take from 5 wheel barrow loads of material a day are available. Feed stock (the bio waste) handling can be automated.

SEaB has developed and patented MUCKBUSTER® and SEaB MB400 compact easy to install turnkey Anaerobic Digestion (AD) systems which have the potential to significantly increase market adoption for generating energy and income from food waste and other bio wastes directly at the sites of smaller waste producers.

MUCKBUSTER® and SEaB MB400 are fully automated, self-optimising micro anaerobic digestion systems housed in transportable shipping containers, enabling low-cost delivery, rapid installation and ease of operation.  MUCKBUSTER® and SEaB MB400 also provides PAS110 pasteurisation so that residual organic digestates can be sold as organic fertiliser or mulch.

The systems include an anaerobic digestion processing container, a gas storage container and a combined heat and power (CHP) unit. MUCKBUSTER® and SEaB MB400 can be scaled to meet a range of customer requirements and are typically specified into sites producing between 200 and 1000 tonnes of food and bio waste per year (0.5 to 2.5 tonnes per day). MUCKBUSTER® and SEaB MB400 are designed to produce up to 55kWe (electricity) and 68kW heat continuously.

MUCKBUSTER® and SEaB MB400 are designed to operate economically and produce an attractive payback. With income from UK Feed-in-Tarrifs (FiT) and Renewable Heat Incentives (RHI), the modelled payback is 3 years using 2 tonnes per day of high yielding bio waste such as bakery residue.  MUCKBUSTER® and SEaB MB400 are enclosed and self-optimising systems. Customer interaction is kept to a minimum and limited to feedstock confirmation and loading. Once loaded the systems go into an automated mode and is fully sensor controlled and can be remotely monitored.
